I'm an amateur racer & an ER Doc & I have faith in Recaro to make a quality baby car seat. My little one has not been disappointed being in this seat.

I agree with all of the other positive reviews about this seat -- it's excellent & quality construction; the ease of use; how it keeps baby cool; etc. It being made by Recaro, I know it'll do it's job if ever in a crash.

The one Con people keep mentioning is how you can't machine wash the seat cover -- I MUST DISAGREE with that assessment. While the manufacturer does not provide instructions on how to take the cover off, it is possible & not very difficult to do. It just takes some time & you have to be careful when slightly bending the side-impact "wings" to remove the cover. The trick to replacing the cover is to put the side-impact foam inserts into the cover BEFORE reinstalling onto the seat. There are 4 foam pieces that can't be machine washed but can be done by hand. (Two "wings", one bottom cushion & one back cushion.) Be careful with bottom & back cushions as they are simple pieces of foam & can rip easily.

I've had the cover off 4 or 5 times now & washed it, the seat back portion (the cover that fits over the part that slides up/down & where the side-impact "wings" are), the shoulder cushions & buckle cushion in a front-loading washing machine & through the dryer without any problems whatsoever.

As an aside -- for those wondering if it'll fit in a Subaru, I have a 2008 Impreza WRX STI & it fits behind the passenger seat but it renders the front px seat useless for a passenger bc you have to push it all the way forward. It won't fit in the middle bc the car seat won't clear the back of the front seats to make them useable. Thus, the only place to put it is behind the front px. But we only use this arrangement in a pinch as the car seat usually lives in my Wife's 2011 Ford Expedition EL (& was in a 2007 Audi Q7 prior to that).

I love this carseat. The impact ratings is what sold my husband and I and the weight limit we live in Ca. so the laws are always going up on the weight. I like that he can stay rearfacing for longer then the first year, he doesn't sweat like he did in the chicco infant seat. And it has alot of padding so he's comfy. It was super easy to install. The only thing that is difficult is the a have a two door car so getting him in and out is a little more difficult, it doesn't help that I'm pregnant with twins.

I have had the Recaro for awhile now. Is it a big seat? YES. But honestly, reading some of the reviews, I am surprised people had such a hard time fitting it in their car. It makes me wonder if they are doing something wrong. I have it rear facing in the rear passenger side. I own a 2006 Jetta. It's not a big car. But the seat (when in recline, which it should be when rear facing) does not block my view in any way and I certainly have no issues getting my 2 year old in and out of it. And like any toddler, he occasionally fights getting into the car. I mentioned that it is being used rear facing in my car right? I just don't see how people are complaining about it not fitting in theirs and not being able to get their child in it due to lack of room when mine works just fine in a little VW Jetta. Like I said, it is a big seat and it is a tall seat, but this is a good thing in terms of safety IMO.
I enjoy many many things about this car seat and will happily buy another one for any child that comes along here. It's beyond safe and tested beyond US requirements (benefit of European testing as they exceed US requirements for safety) and so very nice and comfy for your little one. I think the only complaint if I had to give one is the fabric I have on mine isn't as breathable as I'd like. It'd be perfect in a colder state, but I live in the desert so it gets a bit sweaty during the summer. And maybe the infant thing since there is no way a newborn is going to fit comfortably and properly in this seat on the lowest adjustable strap height. I'd say on average though, after about 3-4 months of age, it should work well.
